The place

Refuge within the Gola del Furlo State Nature Reserve (Marche), reached via the CAI 449 trail from the Passo del Furlo. The trail crosses a wild, well-preserved environment while offering magnificent panoramic views over the gorge below. From the refuge, an exceptional viewpoint over the whole Gola del Furlo: vertical limestone walls of the Monte Paganuccio, the blue-green waters of the Candigliano river, and the peaks of the Pesaro Apennines in the background. The reserve covers about 400 hectares and has 52 km of trails marked to CAI standards in collaboration with the CAI Pesaro section. The gorge was carved by the Candigliano through the limestone range and forms a deep canyon famous since antiquity (the Roman tunnel of the Via Flaminia).
