The place

Refuge at 2604 m at the Colle del Nivolet, commune of Valsavarenche (Aosta Valley / Piedmont, Graian Alps). Right at the heart of the Gran Paradiso National Park, on the border between Piedmont and the Aosta Valley. Originally built in 1938 for military use, managed by the CAI from 1950 to 2010.
