The place
Rifugio "Ettore Castiglioni," named after the eponymous mountaineer, near the artificial Lake Fedaia, at the foot of the north wall and glacier of the Marmolada — Queen of the Dolomites. Built on a rocky spur of the Passo Fedaia in the early 20th century by the Bamberg section of the DuOeAV (Marmolada Hütte), devastated during the Great War, rebuilt in the 1930s by the CAI Milano. Magnificent views of the Marmolada from the dining room. 25 beds; managed by the Soraruf family, who also own the Capanna Punta Penia (the highest refuge in the Dolomites, on the summit of the Marmolada).
