Rifugio Castiglioni
The place
Rifugio "Ettore Castiglioni," named after the eponymous mountaineer, near the artificial Lake Fedaia, at the foot of the north wall and glacier of the Marmolada — Queen of the Dolomites. Built on a rocky spur of the Passo Fedaia in the early 20th century by the Bamberg section of the DuOeAV (Marmolada Hütte), devastated during the Great War, rebuilt in the 1930s by the CAI Milano. Magnificent views of the Marmolada from the dining room. 25 beds; managed by the Soraruf family, who also own the Capanna Punta Penia (the highest refuge in the Dolomites, on the summit of the Marmolada). A bit of history
Ce refuge a été construit à l'origine en 1936 comme caserne de la Guardia di Finanza. Après la Seconde Guerre mondiale, des membres de la section du Club Alpin Italien de Gallarate l'ont transformé bénévolement en refuge de montagne, avant que cette section n'en devienne propriétaire définitive en 1971 en le rachetant à l'administration des Finances. Il porte le nom d'un instructeur d'escalade mort à 24 ans au Poncione di Gamma, en son hommage.
A word from the warden
Ce refuge est gardé en permanence, sa gestion étant assurée depuis 1997 par un même gestionnaire. Il reste ouvert toute l'année, sauf en novembre et mai, et propose douches chaudes, chauffage, bar et hébergement pour environ vingt-cinq personnes.
