Rifugio Castellonchio
The place
Alpine refuge of the Giogo-Casaglia state forest complex in the Mugello (municipality of Borgo San Lorenzo, FI), at about 591 m, reached in about 30 minutes from Risolaia (Grezzano) via trail CAI 38. A basic, practical and welcoming structure: dining hall for 60 people, fully equipped communal kitchen, wood stove and fireplace, lounge refitted from an old barn, adequate sanitary facilities, hot showers powered by solar panels, other activity rooms for rainy days, efficient central wood heating. Capacity of 40 beds, wood oven, fireplaces, bathrooms. From the refuge you can join trail CAI 00 and the whole network of ridge trails; 15 minutes away by a scenic path is the Museum of Rural Civilisation at Casa d'Erci. Open year-round by reservation.
