Rifugio Capoposto
The place
Refuge at 1755 m on a scenic plateau of Monte Morrone, in the Majella National Park (Abruzzo, Italy). About two hours' walk from the village of Rocca Caramanico. Classic route from Passo San Leonardo on a lovely beech-forest trail — called the "Via delle Signore" for its initially easy going, leading to one of the most scenic viewpoints in Abruzzo. Monte Mileto - Rifugio Capoposto loop: ~10.6 km, ~684 m elevation gain, 4 h 30-5 h. Magnificent panorama over the whole of the western Majella and the Adriatic Sea. Route suitable for everyone, children from age 6. Refuge restored with funding from the Abruzzo Region; spartan interior conditions as of the latest surveys.
