The place

Staffed refuge at 2446 m on a large grassy terrace in the Palasinaz valley, municipality of Brusson (Val d'Ayas, Aosta Valley, Italy). Surrounded by numerous alpine lakes, dozens of marked trails and peaks reaching 3000 m. Access from Verrès (A4 motorway) up the Val d'Ayas to Brusson (15 km), then out of town to the right toward Estoul (7 km) to the car park, then a 6 km farm track (1 h 30 on foot for an average walker). From Champoluc: an intermediate route of about 3 to 4 hours' walking, 1000 m of ascent. Starting point for the ascent of numerous peaks between 2800 and 3000 m, a stage on the route between Brusson, Champoluc and the Gressoney valley. Equipped climbing wall nearby with over 40 routes of varying difficulty (from grade 3 to 7). Accessible by mountain bike from Estoul in about two hours.
