The place

Rifugio Abetaia (Fir Forest Refuge) in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, Bologna/Pistoia area (Province of Bologna, Emilia-Romagna, Italy), at 930 m altitude, in the central Apennine chain. A CAI Bologna refuge in a beech-fir forest (the name Abetaia means "fir forest") within the Alto Appennino Modenese regional park. Area of beeches and silver firs (Abies alba, a glacial relict), heritage of the Corno alle Scale massif (1945 m) and the Gothic Line of World War II (1944 front).
