Ricovero Monte Rotondo

Rieti · Italie0 mUnguardedVerified listing

The place

A refuge in the Monti Sabini, located on the Alta Via dei Monti Sabini, the long-distance route running through this mid-mountain range of the central Apennines between the Tiber and the Salaria (province of Rieti, Lazio). Sweeping views over the villages of Casperia and Roccantica perched on the Sabine foothills. The Rifugio Valle Ferrara, managed by the Sabina Trekking association in the same area, rounds out the accommodation network of the area: reachable on foot from Santa Maria in Legarano, usable by arrangement with members. The Ricovero Monte Rotondo forms part of the new wave of refuges in Lazio driven by heritage development in the central massifs: a Mediterranean setting of olive groves, oak woods and summit meadows. A free, unstaffed refuge.
