The place

Wooden interior ravaged by time... roof open... Casemate located on the saddle separating the North and South summits of the very panoramic Mont Colmet 3024m. From the Col Saint Charles, you reach the Lac d'Arpy, then the admirable Lago di Pietra Rossa (well worth the detour), the yellow-marked trail continues south-west (along the lake), you then cross a moraine and the trail continues (it tends to get lost, but you climb the easiest way through this pile of stones) south-west to reach the saddle near the cabin, from where the North summit is easily reached; the South summit is harder, you pass along the East side of the ridge, then below the summit which you skirt around, then rejoin the ridge and, with a few easy climbing moves, reach the summit and its twisted iron cross. Former military casemate in poor condition (explicit sign: rockfall danger).
