Ricovero Igor Crasso

The place

Ricovero at ~1654 m on the Sella Buia, in the Val Resia (Julian Prealps, Friuli Venezia Giulia). Accessible from Stolvizza via the CAI 643 trail in 2h30. Built on the ruins of the former Rifugio Regina Margherita (1892), a large military shelter capable of housing 160 people — the area had been considered militarily significant in the second half of the 19th century, and a substantial military road was built from the Val Resia. The current refuge is dedicated to Igor Crasso, a climber who fell from the Tofana di Rozes on 31 July 1994. A very welcoming and popular structure: 11 beds with mattresses (ground floor and loft), kitchen, stove, solar lighting (weak). Panorama over the Val Resia, the Picco di Mezzodì and Monte Sart; ibex frequently seen nearby.
