The place
A shelter set in a beautiful grassy cirque west of the mountain of the same name, at just under 1200 m altitude, at the eastern end of the long Musi chain (Julian Prealps Regional Nature Park, Friuli-Venezia Giulia). Fully restored: two buildings, one of which is always open, with a ground-floor room fitted with a stove, table, bench and an adjoining basement, plus an upper floor with a pair of beds and mattresses. The shelter offers a table, benches, a stove, cooking utensils, basic equipment and six sleeping places with mattresses. Always open and unstaffed, maintained by the park authority with essential help from local volunteers and users. Access via CAI trail 739 from the church of Sant'Anna di Carnizza, from Sella Carnizza or from Uccea (4.7 km, ~1 h 30); forest track suitable for strollers for families.
