The place

Ribbonwood Hut in the Rakaia valley, Methven/Mount Somers area (Canterbury, South Island, New Zealand), at 593 m elevation, foothills of the Southern Alps. Continuous Canterbury cluster (batches 231-293). DOC hut in an area of extensive pastoral farming and kea (alpine parrot endemic to New Zealand, 3,000-7,000 individuals, the only species of its kind in the world). Ribbonwood = Plagianthus regius/Hoheria angustifolia, a tree endemic to New Zealand.
