Refugiul Viștea Mare

The place

Alpine refuge at Portița Viștei on the main ridge of the Făgăraș Mountains, between the peaks of Viștea Mare (2,530 m) and Galbenele (2,456 m), at 2,310 m altitude. Capacity of 12 places in normal bedding, up to 20 people in bivouac conditions. Unstaffed refuge, open access, a stage on the Făgăraș traverse (the Romanian equivalent of the Hautes Pyrénées). Demanding alpine conditions — strong ridge winds, summer storms, late snow — intended for self-sufficient, experienced hikers.
