The place
Refugiul Făget ("Beech Refuge") in Suceava county, Câmpulung Moldovenesc/Fundu Moldovei area (Rarău-Giumalău, Bukovina, Romania), at 1,305 m elevation, in the Rarău range (1,651 m). Continuous Bukovina Romania cluster (batches 230-341). A Salvamont or CAR Câmpulung refuge, in a zone of Carpathian deciduous beech forest (Făget means "beech grove" in Romanian), part of the heritage of Moldavian Bukovina (an Ottoman province ceded to Austria in 1775, then to Romania in 1918, home to the painted monasteries of Voroneț/Sucevița/Humor/Moldovița, UNESCO-listed in 1993 for their unique 16th-century exterior frescoes), and of Fritz Reuter, a Moldavian writer who in 1904 wrote the first grammar of the Moldavian dialect of Romanian.
