Refugio libre de Hoya Calatuero
The place
Small free refuge built under a large rock in a rocky area at the end of the north-east ridge of the Corona del Mallo, above the Hoya Calatuero, in the Valle de Tena (Aragonese Pyrenees, Huesca, Spain). A minimal under-rock bivouac-type shelter, part of the official free refuges of the Red Natural de Aragón. Classic loop approach from Tramacastilla de Tena via the Bosque del Betato, the Ibón de Piedrafita, the Loma de los Costaces and back via Piedrafita de Jaca. A mineral setting of alpine pastures and glacial lakes, popular with those doing loops around Piedrafita and the Sierra de la Partacua. Very basic, bring your own gear and equipment.
