The place
Small free refuge at the foot of the north face of the limestone peaks Las Tres Marías, on the Tercia del Camino mountain — Cantabrian range, province of León (Castile and León). Exceptional setting near the Casares dam and the village of Casares de Arbás, on a grassy meadow that invites camping. Tiny refuge with a fireplace. According to recent observations, the roof is damaged and water leaks inside. The massif has three peaks: María de los Corros (1971 m), María del Medio (1930 m) and El Palero (1893 m), the first being the highest and the most accessible. The Tres Marías trail is ideal for families, well waymarked and without technical difficulty.
