Refugio Laguna Brava

Burgos · Espagne0 mUnguardedVerified listing

The place

Free-standing refuge near the Laguna Brava, one of the beautiful glacial lagoons of the Sierra de la Demanda (province of Burgos, Spain) in the Lagunas de Neila complex — Muñalba, Patos, Brava, Larga, Corta, Negra, de la Cascada and Las Pardillas. The building is part of the network of free shelters run by the Junta de Castilla y León, successors to the original ICONA constructions, designed for hikers doing the loop around the glacial lakes. Pineda de la Sierra is one of the main access points to the area, below the Mencilla and San Millán peaks, the highest summits of the Burgos Demanda. An exceptional setting of glacial cirques, beech and oak woods, and high-altitude peat bogs.

Getting there

The setting
