The place
Freely accessible refuge in the Serrezuela de Valsalobre area (Cuenca province, Castilla-La Mancha, Spain), designated a Natural Monument. Freely accessible cabin surrounded by a vast pine forest, at the foot of a watchtower used for fire surveillance and prevention — hence the toponym "Torreta". The area stands out for having the highest concentration of sinkholes ("simas") in Spain, many of which remain unexplored. Access via the track leaving from PK 11 on the CM-2101 road (between Peñalén and Villanueva de Alcorón), then turn right into dense pine forest. Very popular with hikers and cavers.
