Refugio Hoya Cuevas
The place
Free refuge in the Sierra de Candelario at the source of the Río Cuerpo de Hombre (province of Salamanca, Castile and León) — not Sierra Nevada/Cazorla. External source at about 1940 m (DB lists 1904 m). One room with a fireplace and a raised platform for 6 people, plus 6 spots on the floor. Facilities: drinking water, fireplace, first-aid kit, table. Easiest access: follow the stream up from La Dehesa, at the Puente Avellanar, on the road linking Candelario to La Garganta. Currently in poor condition: damaged interior roofing, debris on the floor; renovation planned by local authorities for herders and mountaineers in case of emergency.
