Refugio El Hoyuelo
The place
Unstaffed free refuge in the municipality of Guisando (southern Sierra de Gredos, province of Ávila, Spain), in the Hoyuelo area that opens onto the great range of Cerro de la Mira and the Galayos. Sin guarda — unstaffed, open access year-round. A useful stop on the family and mid-mountain routes of southern Gredos, a classic of Guisando municipality's network of small refuges: bare-bones but well-kept shelters, meant to complement the larger staffed refuges (Galayos, Reguero Llano). A Mediterranean setting on the south face of Gredos, away from the busy tourist flows of Candeleda and the Plataforma.
