Refugio del Vado de Salmerón
The place
Free, unstaffed refuge in the Vado de Salmerón recreational area, in the municipality of Zaorejas within the Alto Tajo Natural Park (Guadalajara, Castile-La Mancha). Set up along the Tajo track, the site has a refuge, picnic areas enclosed with wooden fencing, tables, and orientation signage. The refuge lets hikers on through-routes — notably the GR 113 “Camino Natural del Tajo” and other long-distance trails — spend the night. The Fuente del Contornillo, on the right heading up toward Poveda de la Sierra, offers fresh water in all seasons. A setting of limestone Tajo gorges with springs, swimming spots, and old fording paths linking neighboring villages.
