Refugio del Hontanar
The place
Free-standing refuge in the Alto Tajo Natural Park, perched on a rocky promontory overlooking the left bank of the río Gallo gorge, immediately next to the village of Cuevas Labradas (province of Guadalajara, Castile-La Mancha). The building offers covered overnight shelter and has a source of crystal-clear water for restocking supplies. The location offers an exceptional viewpoint over the confluences of the Tajo and the Gallo, the Castillo de Alpetea and the mouth of the río Arandilla into the Gallo. Access from the village of Cuevas Labradas, facing the church bell tower: take the unpaved track that starts opposite and follow it to the rocky walls of the Gallo gorge, where the refuge is located.
