Refugio del Chullo
The place
A modest free-standing refuge on the north-western slope of the Chullo (2611 m), the "roof of Almería" in the Almería Sierra Nevada, about 10 minutes from the geodetic summit. This is not an official refuge and does not appear in formal listings, but it is well known to hikers climbing to the Techo de Almería. The only refuge in the Puerto de la Ragua area located in the province of Almería, and the highest in the entire province. In poor condition, with no door or furniture — impossible to spend the night there in winter, but usable in case of a weather emergency. Views from the ascent to the Chullo range from the Sierra de Cabo de Gata to the Sierra de Gádor with the Mediterranean in the background, and to the north over the Sierra de Baza and Sierra de Los Filabres.
Getting there
From the Puerto de la Ragua via the classic ascent trail of the Chullo. The refuge is about 10 min below the geodetic summit.
