Refugio de Ventura
The place
Former refuge situated at 2242 m on the southern slope of the Cerro del Caballo (3009 m), above the forest hamlet of Tello, in the Granada Sierra Nevada (Spain). A historic stage on the Integral de Sierra Nevada, the full traverse of the massif to or from Lanjarón. The refuge is today in very poor condition — since 2018 it has been sealed and surrounded by a fence preventing access. Before this closure, the building already had no door or windows but still had a fireplace and a source of drinking water, serving in case of weather emergencies or as a backup bivouac. Classic access from Lanjarón (exit 164 off the A-44 toward Motril), then a signposted trail to the Tello forest house via the río Lanjarón ravine. A mineral landscape, hot in summer, with harsh snow and wind in winter.

From Lanjarón via the río Lanjarón ravine and the Tello forest house. Building closed since 2018 (fenced).
