The place
Refuge in the río Lanjarón valley in the Sierra Nevada (province of Granada, Andalusia), at about 2840 m (external sources; the DB lists 2773 m). One of the refuges built for forestry work in Lanjarón: a single building making use of a small rock cavity, with two rooms partly carved into the rock face. Now abandoned, sharing a bleak outlook with other refuges in the area; a testament to the lack of resources and attention in certain parts of the Sierra Nevada. A setting of great beauty between the Tajos Altos and the río Lanjarón; water available from small seep springs in the rock face.
