The place
Free hunters' refuge ('refugio de cazadores') in Aragon (Spain), at 1273 m. A traditional type of mid-mountain shelter maintained by local hunting associations: an isolated stone building, minimal facilities (fireplace, bench, table), sometimes open outside hunting season to hikers and shepherds. Several hunters' refuges remain in the area (María de Huerva, Alto de la Muela, Sierra Pelada), in very peaceful settings well suited for observing Iberian wildlife (deer, birds of prey). Unstaffed, with equipment provided by users themselves.
