Refugio de la Laguna del Duque

The place
Small free refuge near the Laguna del Duque dam (or Laguna de Solana), in the Sierra de Béjar — the western sector of the Gredos massif, straddling Salamanca and Ávila. The Laguna is the largest lake in the Sierra de Gredos Regional Park, of glacial origin, the most accessible and extensive thanks to the dam built in the second decade of the 20th century for hydroelectric power. A modest shelter, regularly used by climbers approaching the sector (numerous bolted routes) and by hikers taking the peaks of Torreón, Calvitero and Canchal de la Ceja from the south.
