The place
Unstaffed hut in the high Sierra de Gredos, at 1980 m in the municipality of Puerto Castilla (province of Ávila, Castile and León). Located near the Portilla Honda pass and the Alto de la Solanilla summit. Shelter for hikers and mountaineers in the western part of the Gredos massif. Very basic equipment, no warden. Mainly used as a base for climbing nearby summits and for winter traverses of the area, where the weather can change rapidly.
