The place
Refugio de Collarte in the Turolense Sistema Ibérico, Calamocha/Monreal del Campo area (province of Teruel, Aragón, Spain), at 971 m elevation, on the Sierras Ibéricas plateau. An unstaffed refugio on the GR-90 Sendero Ibérico trails. Located in a zone of Scots pines, Pyrenean oaks and Spanish junipers (Juniperus thurifera, a relict forest unique in Europe). Part of the heritage of the Serranías Ibéricas and Castilian transhumance.
