Refugio de Clot de Chil
The place
A free refuge at around 1996 m in the Pyrenean highlands on the south side, in the area of the upper Otal valley and the Col de Tendeñera, near the French border. The original building was built in 1983, partially damaged by an avalanche in 1996, then rebuilt in a more sheltered spot. A classic unstaffed refuge of the Aragonese Pyrenees, very basic facilities; serves as a base for outings around the Vignemale and crossings between Spain and France via the Tendeñera, Frondiellas, or Marcadau passes. A mineral high-altitude setting, glacial lakes, and short-season meadows. No reservation needed, bring your own gear and fuel.
Getting there
Approach via the upper Otal valley from Torla or via the border passes (Tendeñera, Frondiellas).
The setting
Southern heights of the Vignemale, Otal valley, French-Spanish border.
