Refugio de Albarea
The place
A free refuge at 944 m on the southern side of the Sierra de Gredos (province of Ávila, Spain), on the forest track linking Candeleda to the Puerto de Candeleda, about 12 km from the village of Candeleda. A single-storey building reachable via a track passable by 4x4 from Candeleda. It serves as a starting point for many routes on the southern face of the massif: the Garganta Lóbrega and Garganta Blanca up to the Portilla de los Tres Hermanitos, and a great descending traverse from the Plataforma de Gredos (1760 m) via the Puerto de Candeleda (2011 m), with over 1000 m of descent on the southern side. A free refuge with no staffing, bring your own gear and equipment.
