The place

Refuge-bivouac at 1700 m (DB) / 1710 m (external sources) in Santiago-Pontones (Jaén, Andalusia), in the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas Nature Park. Rebuilt from a former shepherd's shelter, renovated for hiking use: fireplace removed, wooden bunk beds and a sink collecting rainwater. Capacity of 10 people, very simple facilities. Stage 17 of the GR 247 'Bosques del Sur' (Refugio Campo del Espino - Pontones) and branch 6, access to the Banderillas peak and the Juan León viewpoint. Reserved for hikers and cyclists (GR 247 priority), no motor vehicle access, no more than two consecutive nights. Setting of pine and oak forests, presence of deer, eagles and small wildlife.
