The place

Planned sleeping spots: 6 Solid stone building (like all Andorran refuges). Open all year round. Equipment: - 6 stacked metal bunk frames - Mattress and sleeping bag required! Metal is cold! - If the left-hand part of the shelter is open, you can get hold of a mattress ... - 1 table - 1 bench (one bunk doubling as a 2nd bench) - First-aid kit - 1 broom - Not much firewood in the surrounding area ... Water: - A catchment brings water to the shelter (not always working) - Water can easily be found near the shelter Note: - Every spring, the refuges are inspected to "redo the levels", so to speak, by people managing these refuges, and are regularly visited. - Don't be surprised to be visited by rangers, who regularly patrol and check the condition of all refuges in the country, made available and maintained by the Andorran Government. In every Andorran refuge, you'll find (sometimes more than one ...) a "Refuge Passport" with a stamp to apply in the appropriate box. Once you've walked one of the trails crossing the country (GR11, HRP, ...), you present the passport at the National Tourism Office, which gives you a corresponding certificate and a gift! From Arinsal: Take the GR11 towards the Refuge de la Coma Pedrosa, you reach a fork, take the direction of Pla de l'Estany/Estanys Forcats on the right (the other path leads to the staffed Coma Pedrosa refuge), which brings you to the refuge sitting a little above the Pla de l'Estany. From [->5352]: Climb northeast towards the Collada dels Estangs Forcats, a pass you cross to descend towards the Estangs Forcats, which you pass on the true right bank, then continue descending into the cirque until reaching the Pla de l'Estany where the refuge stands. From France, starting from the Étang de Soulcem: Continue right to the south of the cirque to reach the Port d'Arinsal by climbing the track (shortcuts possible), then you reach a flat spot at around 2300m, then turn due south towards the pass, continue south passing several small lakes and then keep descending until reaching the Pla de l'Estany and the refuge.
