The place

Sleeping capacity: 20. A solid stone building (like all Andorran refuges). Open year-round. I've had the chance to sleep there several times, including on June 2nd, when it was still winter up there, and walking into the closed refuge felt like stepping into a fridge — it was seriously cold! Avoid 10°C comfort-rated sleeping bags. Equipment: - 12 metal bunk frames (-> no mattresses!) - Mattress and sleeping bag mandatory! Metal gets cold! - The inside of the refuge is spacious, and you can settle in as long as you have your own mattress, otherwise ... - 2 tables - 4 benches - First-aid kit - 1 broom/dustpan - Not much firewood nearby ... Water: - The lake's overflow outlet - Coming from Incles, you find water on the way up. Note: - Every spring, the refuges are inspected to "restock supplies," so to speak, by the people who manage them, and are visited regularly. - Don't be surprised by visits from rangers, who regularly patrol and check the condition of all the country's refuges, which are provided and maintained by the Andorran government. In every Andorran refuge you'll find (sometimes more than one...) a "Refugis Passport" with a stamp to apply in the appropriate box. Once you've completed one of the trails crossing the country (GR11, HRP, ...), you present the passport to the National Tourism Office, which gives you a corresponding certificate and a gift! From the Val d'Incles: You can drive up the Val d'Incles from Soldeu (at the western foot of the Port d'Envalira) to the Pont de la Baladosa (car park), but be careful — from mid-June to mid-September the road is closed uphill from 9 am to 6 pm at the Pont d'Incles (start of the valley), so plan ahead and start early ... From the Pont de la Baladosa, head toward the Port d'Incles along a first steep section beside the stream; once on the flat, a footbridge lets you cross the stream to essentially double back and make a less steep ascending traverse to the west; you reach a flat area, a short descent, then a final climb over rocky slabs up to the lake — the refuge is just before it. From the Val d'Incles: From the Pont de la Bonavida, before the Pont de la Baladosa, a path heading NNW also reaches the refuge. From the Val de Ransol: From the head of the Val de Ransol, you join the [->5411], then follow the path east that crosses the Coma de Varilles ridge (from where you can see the refuge), followed by a fairly steep descent that curves around to reach the refuge.
