Refuge Vallferrera
The place
Staffed refuge located at 1940 m altitude in the Vallferrera valley, in the Pallars Sobirà, Catalonia. It is the oldest federated refuge in Catalonia, opened in 1935. Stage on Pyrenean high-mountain routes, base for the ascent of the Pica d'Estats, Catalonia's highest point.

Access from Areu via the forest track then a marked path. Booking recommended with the warden.

A bit of history
Le refuge a été construit grâce à une souscription populaire lancée auprès des excursionnistes catalans, puis inauguré en septembre 1935. C'est le plus ancien refuge du réseau fédératif de la FEEC (Federació d'Entitats Excursionistes de Catalunya), qui en est toujours propriétaire et gestionnaire. Le bâtiment a connu une rénovation en 1988, puis une réfection complète en 2010.
A word from the warden
Le refuge est gardé en haute saison, et occasionnellement à Pâques selon les conditions météo. Il propose des douches à eau chaude, du chauffage biomasse, et de la restauration avec des tarifs différenciés pour les licenciés FEEC.
