Refuge Vaccarone
The place
CAI Turin refuge at 2743 m in the Ambin massif, on the left side of the Val di Susa, practically above the town of Susa, near Lake Agnello (municipality of Giaglione, Piedmont, Italy). Built in May 1900 by CAI Turin, dedicated to the lawyer Luigi Vaccarone. Capacity 15 beds in the staffed season in a single dormitory, plus 2 extra spots in summer (July-August) and 10 spots in the winter section. Staffed season: July and August. A stop on the Via Alpina towards the Refuge Levi-Molinari.
Getting there
Quatre itinéraires pédestres : depuis Exilles (dénivelé 1040 m, environ 4h) ; depuis Chiomonte (dénivelé 1430 m, environ 5h) ; depuis Giaglione (dénivelé 1650 m, environ 5h30) ; depuis le Colle del Piccolo Moncenisio (dénivelé 770 m, environ 4h). Une fontaine intermédiaire est signalée à San Giovanni (2055 m).
The setting
Situé au Lago dell'Agnello, commune de Giaglione, Val di Susa, massif d'Ambin. Dortoir unique de 15 lits, cuisine locale/bio/équitable. Un bivouac (Bivacco Sibille) est adjacent pour l'usage hivernal hors saison de gardiennage.
A bit of history
Construit en mai 1900 par le CAI de Turin, puis cédé au CAI de Chiomonte. Dédié à l'avocat Luigi Vaccarone, figure piémontaise et l'un des fondateurs du CAI en 1863, alpiniste et historien de la montagne.
