Refuge Saint-Joseph
The place
Mini-refuge in Mont-Mégantic National Park (Sépaq, Val-Racine, Estrie, Quebec), 300 m north of the summit of Mont Saint-Joseph and near a century-old chapel. A rectangular 16 m² cabin made from a recycled shipping container, completed in 2019. Capacity for 2 hikers per night; also serves as a day rest stop. No electricity or running water, wood stove for heating. Large east-facing windows allow you to enjoy the sunrise without going outside; wooden interior in a "Scandinavian chalet" style. Open year-round, panoramic view over the Mégantic region and the Appalachians. (DB altitude 1034 m; external source 1045 m, discrepancy retained.)
