Refuge Saènt (Silvio Dorigoni)
The place
Rifugio of the Società degli Alpinisti Tridentini (SAT) at 2436 m (external sources; DB gives 2437 m), at the head of the Val di Rabbi, in the Val Saènt — one of the most beautiful and unspoiled valleys of the Stelvio National Park and the Ortles-Cevedale group. Inaugurated in 1903 and dedicated to the Garibaldian volunteer Silvio Dorigoni, president of the SAT in 1897-1898. Last renovated in 1987 for the 93rd SAT Congress in Rabbi. A strategic position at the junction of four valleys (Val di Rabbi, Val di Peio, Val Martello, Val d'Ultimo), serving as a base for their traverses and ascents. A valley rich in water, waterfalls, lakes, alpine meadows, and centuries-old larches. 80 staffed places and 4 winter bivouac places. Hot water, showers, toilets, heating, bar, and food service. Managed by the Iachelini family, usually open 20 June-20 September.
