The place

Rustic log refuge in the Grands-Jardins National Park (SEPAQ), located at Lac Pointu in the boreal area of the Charlevoix park. Built entirely of logs, it is open all day from 9 am to 4 pm so hikers can rest or picnic inside near the wood stove. From the Étang Malbaie, you cross the dense boreal forest, then the landscape opens up on the way back with views of the Charlevoix massifs. Several Refuges Pointu (numbered 1 and 2) dot this area, equipped with a wood stove, basic dishware, and bunks. SEPAQ reservation required. The area is part of Grands-Jardins National Park, famous for its southern taiga, its historic caribou herds, and its glacial lakes.

From the Étang Malbaie, crossing the boreal forest to Lac Pointu. SEPAQ reservation (Grands-Jardins).
