Refuge Monzino

The place

Capacity: 55 The refuge terrace looks straight down onto a rock band. Guaranteed view over the Val Vény! Access in 3h (alpine trail plus [->10669]): from La Visaille, cross the Doire river, then immediately left onto a good mule track. Climb back up crossing 2 moraines and 1 stream, then right at the junction toward the Refuge Monzino. After a 10-minute climb, a first rock band is crossed from left to right, then straight up. This band has no cable except a few chains. Caution is advised even though the route is easy. Then follow a narrow path straight up the slope until you reach (on the left side) the large rock band lined with waterfalls that closes off the cirque. This is where the (steep) via ferrata starts, at least 100 m long, with a short stretch of path (cabled ledge) in the middle. The second part after the ledge is easier. Coming out of the rock band, a good path climbs toward the back of the cirque then turns left to reach the refuge's ridge. Another rock band is crossed via a short cabled chimney. Beyond that, the path climbs gradually to the grassy ridge on which the refuge sits. After another 10 minutes, you reach the refuge.
