Refuge Mataro
The place
Unstaffed refuge at 2460 m in the Val Gerber, at the heart of the Encantats massif and the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park (Catalonia, Spain). Built in 1985 by the mountain section of the Club Esportiu Mataró and managed by the Uniò Excursionista de Catalunya (UEC). Small metal structure with a warm wooden interior, capacity for 9 on bunk beds. Located on the Estany Llong in the upper Gerber valley. Access from the Peülla car park, on the east side of the Port de la Bonaigua, in about 2h30 through a valley dotted with lakes. A classic base for the Pic de Bassiero and the neighbouring peaks of the Encantats.
Getting there
Accès uniquement pédestre, plusieurs itinéraires possibles : depuis le sanctuaire de la Mare de Déu de les Ares (environ 2h30) ; depuis le Refugi de Saboredo (environ 2h) ; depuis le Refugi d'Amitges (environ 1h30) ; depuis la zone de la Peülla (station de ski Baqueira-Beret).
The setting
Refuge métallique situé à 2 460 m d'altitude, sur un promontoire au bord de l'Estany de l'Illa, dans le haut val de Gerber (Pallars Sobirà), en zone périphérique du Parc National d'Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici.
