The place
Italian capanna located at 3647 m elevation in the Monte Rosa massif (Pennine Alps, Aosta Valley). Inaugurated in 1876 as a small bivouac, it became a major alpine refuge dedicated to the mountaineer-priest Giovanni Gnifetti of Alagna Valsesia. 176 sleeping places: heated rooms with 6 (bunk) beds and 4 dormitories of 10/15 beds. Gives access to the 15 4,000 m peaks of Monte Rosa and to the Capanna Margherita (Signalkuppe).
