Refuge forestier des Artigous
The place
Cabin intended to shelter forestry workers' midday meals. Left open for the public to use for a picnic on a rainy day. A large fireplace fitted with a pot-hanger, a table, a rickety bench, 6 moleskin chairs. Shovel, broom, ... It should be possible to sleep 3 or 4 people on the concrete floor (nothing is forbidden in the Aude, you just need to be respectful of the place and other users). Firewood all around, no water in this forest. Multiple access points via all the forest tracks open to traffic in the Plaine-Comus forest. On foot, from Belcaire, at the west entrance of the village take the street to the holiday center. After passing it, take a mule track marked "Chemin du Traouc" that climbs to the right up to the Col du Traouc. At the pass, continue on the path climbing to the left up to a bend in the forest track. Take this track to the right, going down to the junction where the cabin is located. ONF
Getting there
Depuis le village de Belcaire, on rejoint la cabane en suivant le chemin muletier balisé du col du Traouc, puis en poursuivant sur la piste forestière de la forêt domaniale de Plaine-Comus jusqu'à un carrefour où se trouve le refuge.
The setting
La cabane est isolée en pleine forêt domaniale de Plaine-Comus, à 1130 mètres d'altitude, sans source d'eau à proximité.
A bit of history
Cette cabane a été construite à l'origine comme abri destiné aux repas de mi-journée des forestiers ; elle est aujourd'hui ouverte au public pour se restaurer ou s'abriter par mauvais temps. Aucune date précise de construction n'a pu être établie.
A word from the warden
L'entretien de cette cabane forestière est assuré par l'Office National des Forêts, cohérent avec son usage d'origine réservé aux forestiers.
