Refuge forestier de Gaffouil

The place

Well-restored stone forest refuge at 1533 m in the Sabarthès (Ariège), in the Montcalm state forest (northern sector). Stacked wooden sleeping platforms with good-quality mattresses, small benches, fireplace, double door (inner door plus main door, decent insulation). Fountain 50 m away near the Refuge Sportif (closed). Plentiful wood nearby. Access from Marc via the GR 10 briefly heading northwest, then towards the hamlets of Remoul (or Remous) and Cap de Roc, climbing to the Orris de Belcaire, then an almost level path ESE then ENE after the 1714 m spot height, refuge 700 m further on the left.
