Refuge du Vulcain, an unstaffed shelter at 800 m on the ascent route of Mont Humboldt (1616 m, the second-highest peak of the Grande Terre, New Caledonia). Metal and concrete structure with indoor and outdoor tables. Rainwater collection for drinking, a few basic utensils.

Getting there

A stop on the Mont Humboldt hike: the point where hikers leave the track for the ridge trail. Historic access from the Galliéni mine (1h30 to 2h walk), but the access road to the mine has been closed since December 2008 — about 18 km of extra walking on the mining track to reach the base.
