The place
Very small unstaffed cabin at 1200 m in the Hautes-Vosges, also called "Kapitaen'hisel" (Captain's cabin). Built since 2006. Access is tricky in winter or for the uninitiated (not directly on the trail). Inside: table with sturdy wooden benches, fireplace-barbecue, tools. A good waypoint shelter between the Grand Ballon and the Markstein.

On the Grand Ballon - Markstein traverse. Access off-trail is tricky.

Hautes-Vosges, between Grand Ballon (1424 m) and Markstein.
A word from the warden
Cabane non gardée, sans places de couchage officiellement déclarées, mais pouvant accueillir confortablement deux à quatre personnes selon les retours de randonneurs. Ni matelas, ni couvertures, ni latrines sur place. L'entretien reste informel, assuré par les randonneurs de passage qui réapprovisionnent le bois et maintiennent la propreté.
