The place
Unstaffed refuge at 2080 m altitude among the ruins of Port de Salau, a former France-Spain border pass (Ariège-Pallars Sobirà). Remains of a cable system that transported timber to a paper mill in the early 20th century. Very rustic refuge: 2 benches, fireplace, 3 places. Difficult conditions (cold, damp, water seepage); to be used as a last resort. Cabane de la Lanne 200 m lower on the French side as an alternative.
