Refuge du Mont Panié (Maruia) at the foot of Mont Panié (1,629 m, the highest peak in New Caledonia), Hienghène/Pouébo area (Grande Terre North, New Caledonia, France), at 1,350 m elevation. A Province Nord refuge within the Mont Panié wilderness reserve, on land of Kanak heritage (Hienghène chiefdoms). Home to endemic Araucaria stands and primary tropical rainforest, habitat of the cagou (Rhynochetos jubatus, the national emblem bird).
