Refuge du Château
The place
Small unstaffed hut set at 1030 m near the ruins of the "Château" of Romeyer, at the foot of the eastern Vercors (commune of Romeyer, Drôme). The building is set slightly back: from the path you mainly see the closed ONF (forestry office) house — the open shelter is to the right, past the fountain. Capacity of 6, equipped with a stove, benches, a table and a small mezzanine. A fountain stands in front of the hut, and a marked path presents the historical remains. The Romeyer family is attested from the mid-12th century in the records, and the château itself appears as a co-lordship in 1273. Forested setting on the edge of the Vercors high plateaus, a little-visited sector, accessible year-round from Romeyer for bivouacking and hiking stopovers.
