Refuge des Frères Aymar-Coll

The place

Unstaffed refuge at 2180 m in the Cerdagne (Pyrénées-Orientales), the former work residence of the Aymar brothers, who held the right to fish for trout in the Carlit lakes (raft and net fishing). The fishing right was also shared (sublet) with the Coll family, hence the name "AYMAR-COLL". They lived in Angoustrine when not working. Originally fishermen, the Aymar brothers were the first to professionally organise hikes in the Carlit massif and would host the rare hikers of the time, occasionally acting as guides. Capacity of 4 places in both summer and winter, fireplace, wood and water available. A refuge that's hard to find (many neighbouring lakes not to be confused): from the Bouillouses dam, trail toward the Pic Carlit, leave the first lake on the left (Estany Negre) then another on the right (Estany del Viver).
